Youths in Nigeria, particularly in Kano, have been dared to come up with their own ways to curb out challenges afflicting youth in the nation.

Former minister of national planning, Dr. Shamsudden Usman, OFR, CON, made the challenges on Wednesday during a two day workshop organized by Kano Youth Summit with a theme: “Youth Inclusiveness as a Driver for Sustainable Growth and Development” held at Marhaba Event Centre in the ancient city of Kano.

Dr Usman, who is the Chairman, Kano Economic and Investment Summit, said that the older ones who occupies high table in the occasion were people in their 50s, thereby the future was not theirs, but of the youth that were present.

“All people that were on high table today have been accused of not letting youths have a say in policy and decision making in the country.”

In his remarks, chairman of Kano Youth Summit Commitee, Sadiq Naseeb Danpullo, explained that there are so many interwoven factors that push them to hold such kind of summit, first of its kind in the whole country which include massive drug abuse among youths in the state, illicit affairs conducted by the youths, illiteracy, unemployment, poverty, begging and marital issues among others.

According to him, all hands must be on deck in order to put a halt on that menace, this is not a job of one person only, all are equal to contribute in this fight against indiscipline that is crippling our youths who were leaders of tomorrow.

“This occasion for now is for the youths especially in Kano ready to fight this battle, because there are so many problems affecting youths, so we have to come together and do all we can collectively in tackling these issues.

“If youths of today were drug addicted, illiterates or thugs, what kind of leadership will that result in the next few years? All our leaders of today were older in terms of age, some are even above 70, so what kind of future do we have as youths?

“After this occasion, we hope to arrange and organized a compendium to submit it to the appropriate authorities for implementation of our recommendations in this event.”

DanPullo expressed his appreciation for the turnout of youths that graced the summit, adds that, “this is the first event, and we hopefully make it yearly event.”

The summit was graced by His Excellency, Deputy Governor of Kano State, Professor Hafiz Abubakar MFR, representative of Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II Sarkin Shanun Kano, Alhaji Shehu, Commissioners of Finance, Commerce & Industry and that of Budget and Planning, permanent secretary Ministry of Environment, Baba Halilu Dantiye, mni, his counterpart of Special Duties, Kuliya Zubair, professionals from various discipline, businessmen, students.
